The Epilepsy Foundation of Southeast Wisconsin is dedicated to improving the quality of life for all those affected by seizure disorders/epilepsy through education, direct services, advocacy and the support of research for the prevention and cure of epilepsy. We are the only agency specifically organized to serve the diverse and special needs of the 10,000 children and 20,000 adults with epilepsy in MIlwaukee, Ozaukee, Waukesha and Washington counties. An additional 100,000 family members may also require epilepsy-related services.

WHO WE HELP
Here's how one family described our services:
Dear Friends, I would like to express my thanks to the Epilepsy Foundation and all the volunteers and participants for an incredibly successful 2006 Run/Walk! I have been a part of the event since its inception and with each year, there is a greater sense of family, and dedication to helping those afflicted with this devastating condition. Our family feels so blessed to be a part of the love that is integral to this organization. Our son, Bob, now 13 years old, has done so well over the years since his brain surgery in 2000. Part of that is due to the Foundation and its good works. He’s been able to travel for medical care, go to camp, take an art therapy class and attend a Brewer’s baseball camp all with the support of the Foundation’s many contributors. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts and hope to make this a lifelong commitment to helping with awareness and hopefully one day, a cure for epilepsy.

WHO WE ARE

In Memory of Lila Marcus
The Epilepsy Foundation of Southeast Wisconsin deeply mourns the death of Lila Marcus, who served as our beloved and dedicated Executive Director since 1991.
Lila held a Masters Degree in Urban Affairs with an emphasis in Community Health Planning from the UW—Milwaukee. She served in the health field for 23 years before joining EFSW.
Lila was passionate about serving people with epilepsy and their families. She knew first-hand the difficulties they face in receiving accurate diagnoses, medical care, social opportunities, and employment. She understood the importance and fragility of self-esteem. And nothing stopped her from envisioning and working to bring to fruition the many programs and opportunities that now exist for individuals and families affected by epilepsy in Southeast Wisconsin.
She leaves a legacy of determined and heartfelt advocacy. She made life much sweeter and richer for many thousands of people, and we here are all deeply indebted to her. She will be truly missed.
